Jonas Golland
Drums/Guitar/Music theory and production

Jonas Golland is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed with imaginative and varied artists including the Tiger Lillies, Jowe Head, Paradise 9, The Wailers, and has composed and produced albums with I am Meat, Anthony Sobati, Gardyloo Spew and Jowe Head.

A self-taught musician from age 9, his family moved to northern California where he studied and practiced theatre arts extensively, while continuing a creative approach to improvisation and learning music by ear. He developed skills in drums but also guitar, bass and keyboard.

After 20 years doing theatre arts and playing in metal, rock and jazz projects, and studying music at the Santa Rosa Junior College, Jonas moved back to London and completed a BMus(Hons) degree in Popular Music Performance at Drumtech / University of West London. He created the band I am Meat with comedian David Gadsdon, and continued to play in bands on the London avant-garde scene such as Psychoyogi, The A Band, Gardyloo Spew, Man From Uranus and Hugh Metcalf.

From 2015 to 2020 he toured extensively in about 500 performances as drummer, percussionist, backing vocalist and actor with cult cabaret outfit the Tiger Lillies in four continents, devising new theatre shows, appearing in the film Icaria, and recording the Devil's Fairground album live with the Berg Orchestra in Prague.

In 2020 Jonas developed as a songwriter, producing the Private Plebs album Convenience Fallout 2020. He continued drumming on albums with Ceri James and Color-Head, and got back into music tuition, working at Hicaz Studio in Dalston where he also recorded with Davide Salvietti.

In 2021 Jonas developed The Wayward Muse for stage by Private Plebs as a band with Steve Elwell, Dave Swift, Robyn Steward and Karolina Hamanowicz. The band composed avant-punk songs using 1920s poetry written by Jonas' great grandafather Arthur Golland, and performed at the 100 Club, Dublin Castle and Cafe OTO among others. It was around this time that Jonas was extensively editing videos for the Daily Brace comedy show, as well as for music projects, in Premiere Pro, which he still uses.

In 2022 Jonas joined the 'third-stream' 10-piece orchestral fusion band, Perfect Stranger, who are playing live. The first album, Unfinished Business, will release in 2024. See perfectstranger.band. He also began playing percussion and drums with Dawn of the Squid, and had a stint with African folk rock band Kan Beng.

In 2023 Jonas started hosting and curating the regular event Clumsy Club, an inclusive and varied event that presents theatrical pieces, varied music, stand up comedy and spoken word music at Biddle Bros, Hackney, London. He continues to collaborate scoring stories for writer Bob Prophette including the Book of Revelation in the style of Dr. Seuss and The Suffering of Pooh.

In 2024 Jonas has been composing classical fusion pieces for a jazz band loosely titled Nicotene Tea, which features esteemed trombonist Marcus Jones, recorder/sax player Tim Chasin and bassist Mihaly. He continues to enjoy regular teaching and CPD, teaching piano at St Johns CoE Walham Green, and continue teaching drums, music theory, music production, guitar and ensemble skills.

Jonas enjoys teaching and is a very talented tutor preparing his pupils for all major exam boards in the UK, such as Rockschool and ABRSM.
